Seeing The Sun At Midnight

The first time I ever heard anything close to that expression was when I was staying as a guest with my most living teacher, at a place called Meherazad, in India. His name was Eruch Jessawala, and he had spent the most time with Meher Baba of anyone, and knew Meher Baba since the age of nine. He became Meher Baba's voice— “Sounds of God” some said, as Meher Baba did not speak the last 44 years of his life; but did communicate, the last some 15 years of his life through a unique sign language! Eruch most translated Baba's gestures!

The way that phrase came up was: my sleep requirements while staying with my teacher became different. Usually, after going to bed around 9, I would wake in two or three hours and feel I had all the sleep I needed for that day. Then would work on my Hafiz poem-renderings, or go meditate in a place called Mandali Hall, or walk around in this beautiful countryside estate (Meherazad) in the middle of the night, or around the surrounding area.

There is a now famous place close to Meherazad, maybe a 1/2 mile climb to the top, called Seclusion Hill. If you Google: Seclusion Hill, Meher Baba, you could learn more about Seclusion Hill, if you wanted.

So once, while staying at Meherazad, (that began in the late 1980s and extended all through the ‘90s) that could be for periods from a couple weeks to a couple months; and went on for some 12 years before my teacher died. That is: my teacher would call the shots about that, via when he would invite me to come from America to stay with him, and when I was to leave. I had no problem with that at all, as I so trusted a rare, rare insight he could reveal to anyone if he wanted. And told him: "I am always free to come— whenever you ask.” Yep, sure! Thought it was my chance to cowboy up! So one stay there, and being up in the middle of the night as I had said, I got the thought to climb Seclusion Hill in the middle of the night. And I had the thought: it would in some ways be equivalent to climbing Mount Sanai, or as close as I might ever get.

So the next morning, walking with Eruch, as I had done with him — hundreds of times alone in the very early mornings, and always leaving at 6AM, I say to Eruch: "Would you mind if I climbed Seclusion Hill in the middle of some night?" And he said: “Fine, but let me know before you go.” And then I said: “But it could be like at midnight, and I wouldn't want to wake you!"

And then Eruch said: “I see the Sun at midnight, and will be on my knees in my heart in prayer and thanks to God. And we would be glad to know you want to ascend, and someday be one with us!”

And in just now, doing a bit of research of the expression: The sun at midnight, it brought me to the Arabic phrase: Ahl al-Bayt. Which can mean: People of the House, and refers to the family of the Prophet Muhammad. And it said that phrase: The sun at midnight has Sufi & esoteric origins.

And indeed Eruch seemed to me to have entered God's house! Had become intimate family to God, as one day all of us will realize, we are! It is in our sacred genes, having been born like all in existence from God’s womb! Our sacred genes are evolving to being so aware, so awake— we will be like an infinite sky able to embrace everything, everything in a perfect equanimity!

Seeing The Sun At Midnight. Being able to detach ourselves from, ascend above as it were, happenings in this world today, are becoming more and more a vital need to the millions of us of faith. Or we can become too affected by what can so rightfully seem— the insanities that cause great suffering!

A divine, glorious light is really the root of everything. But inside the rose bud is there not darkness, until it opens. Until it knows more. Knowing, real Knowing is seeing the Sun — at all times. I am not there, but for a few moments now and then. But can feel deeply that is our path & destiny.

My greatest experiences of God, of seeing the Holy Radiance I could really only talk to someone like Carl Jung about, or to my teacher. Happened via Meher Baba & Hafiz! And have so affected all my books; my every poem; which is now over ten thousand! And other writings also!

In most all of my books, Meher Baba is mentioned. I came across this YouTube video just the other day for the very first time, and wanted to share it here with any who might want to learn more about him, and too, might want to listen to some fine Indian music. And too, see some great pictures of Krishna & Rama, and those who were closest to them, in their Ahl al-Bayt!

That video link is enclosed and is titled: Meher Chalisa. And offers links within this link, and some rich, to me, history about many things!

"Sounds of God!” I once said to Eruch: "I heard you have been called that!”

And Eruch replied: “Me and the birds singing. And any words of love from any mouth!”
