The Utility Of the Sun
The word Sun here being a metaphor for the word God, and or Truth.
Seems I know something about poetry having had some international bestselling poetry books with Penguin Random House for a couple decades. Then got some 10,000, yep ten thousand still unpublished poems, and a little stack of children’s books in progress, and 3 good Plays; one Hollywood even sniffed at, and might even really bite into!
And I looooove Jesus, he is one of my main guys! To me he soooo cowboyed up. Maybe even cowgirled up also, who really knows. I love him like I do Buddha, I love them almost as much as I did my favorite dog. But even God knows what He-She can do compared to our precious — dog love! So I bet God says, “Just go for it angels! Love whatever you can, for with me being Existence personified. Hell, you are really just digging — loving — Me, aren't ya! You sure are!!”
Glad we are covered there up yonder— in God 102!
John: 8:32. Quoting Jesus says,
... and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you set free.
Freedom, our every movement, sound and thought is always, always about that, an attempt; really, no matter what we do. Freedom is truly at the heart of all the world's great religions & teachings & great love, and great art. It is why we can so love music and the beauty in nature, and in our friends, and family & community— when they are sane.
The utility of the Sun. The gift of Light in words. They are distilled to me in 8 lines of poetry; literal translations so sanctioned by someone I consider a wonderful authority.
You can read a short story and see 7 of those lines via this link. And then could explore on the Web more about any of the 3 principals mentioned there.
The other line is a literal translation of Hafiz (c.1320-1389). And that one line is so deep, and was so affecting to me, I wrote one of my most significant blog entries about it you could read via this link.
If someone asked me what great literature & art was all about, or what great relationships are all about, I would say: Their ability to safeguard and empower you.
There are really worlds to me in that “ability" in these eight lines of poetry. If, if you can let your mind slow down enough to absorb them, if you can honor yourself enough to imbibe them and let them free you— as the Truth can. And I will offer a rendering of the 7 lines of Kabir (c.1440-1518), and then you can see via that link a literal translation of them. But first some lines from a new Hafiz rendering I was working on just the other day. These lines are mid that poem and go, and I feel are relevant & expound on all here...
And what about being able to sit on a branch with bird and sing, and then too fly into the sky with it dancing— when true knowledge (the Truth) and you have wed, and you are free of gravity.
The gravity of a sword swinging in your mind against anything, or the gravity in an unkind word or act. The gravity in the great burden of right and wrong.
OOO, OOO, the gravity in the great burden of right & wrong. Seems who can not benefit from that until, until we can drop every sword we have… when the Truth sets us free in knowing God is not only the doer of all things, but is, but is, but is— all Things!
Gonna skip that rendering of those 7 Kabir lines for now. Maybe on my next blog entry. But try sitting down with Carl Jung the best you can, or maybe with Yoda, or even Elvis could help— your Jailhouse Rock. Ahhh music! Ahhh the Truth & love setting ya free!
I hope you can honor yourself enough to try and imbibe them, these 8 lines. As my teacher once said of great poetry: It is a golden mountain, an alchemy stone, that wants to be swallowed, and can then nourish, transform and free you when you try and live it! There is a sun in a sky in us, poetry helps rise!
And if ya want, we toss into this fireside chat how I think Free Will rolls. Here is a link to a blog entry about that! That being around a truly enlightened person in India for years— so, so helped me to write.
